08 Mar What is CLB and how do I know my CLB level?
CLB stands for Canadian Language Benchmarks. It is the national standard in Canada for describing, assessing, and acknowledging adult and prospective immigrants’ English language proficiency for living and working in the country.
The CLB describe 12 levels of ability in each of four different language skills – Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
The Canadian Language Benchmarks themselves are not a test. They are a way to describie the results you would get on a language test such as the IELTS or TEF Canada, CELPIP.
Equivalencies between the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLBs) (for English), the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (for French), and the results of language tests from designated testing organizations have been established and are summarized in the following tables.
