Language testing for the new temporary pathway to permanent residence

Applicants must have a language level proficiency of at least CLB 5 for foreign students who graduated from a Canadian institution or CLB 4 for esential workers to be eligible for the newly announced temporary pathway to permanent residence.

To meet health guidelines and COVID-19 restrictions, language testing organizations were running at lower capacity. “We understand they are now adding extra testing sessions to meet increased demand.”, IRCC said.

Applicants can use a previous language test from a recognized institution if the test result is less than two years old at the time the application is received.

Language test results will be accepted by IRCC if they are sent by email or via the testing organization’s online portal.

As of May 6, 2021,IRCC will begin accepting applications under the following 3 streams:

  • 20,000 applications for temporary workers in health care
  • 30,000 applications for temporary workers in other selected essential occupations
  • 40,000 applications for international students who graduated from a Canadian institution

The streams will be open until November 5, 2021, or until they reach their limit. These three stream will admit up to 90,000 new permaent residents.
